Hey, I met Coolit through the multiplaying forum and have played some Darkfall and other games with him. I spent a little time with the DHV folks in Wurm. I hear about this site on the Sandbox podcast and thought I'd check it out. I love chatting about games and other hobbies that games tend to enjoy.

I fix robots for a living, live in San Francisco, and am always on the lookout for other West Coast gamers. I usually play MMOs, and I dabble in turn-based tactics/strategy wargames. I was heavy into BF 1942 and TF2, but my shooter interest has waned as they have trended towards modern-style warfare.

Hey Winin, welcome to JFF! =) It's good to have ya here with us! I don't mind the modern-style FPS games, but I get ya... 1942 was awesome because it was simple and just plain fun!

Had to really pick your shots with the rate of fire and reload on a Garand. lol
BF 1942 was great fun, I'd forgotten.

Ah strategy games... somehow my love for those has waned, but I like some Total War now and then.

I've been playing Age of Empires Online, it's free. I ended up buying the extra stuff, but even then, it was only 32.00. But you can really get a feel for the game for free and whatnot, so if you're into such types of games, I'd check it out for sure!

I think a large part of my fondness for BF1942 was the pace (not as run-n-gun as modern games) and the group (I was one of the founding members of The Lazy Bastards, a great bunch of guys, we had our own server, etc.). I like some twitch, but not super twitch games. I'm in the beta for Warhammer: Wrath of Heroes, and I quite like it. It is MMO-style combat, but with battle maps similar to a TF2 or BFx game. Although there are 3 teams of 6 rather than 2 teams of a bunch. The MMO combat is less twitchy but still fun. And you pick pre-set characters to play, so the leveling is like in current BF games.

Age of Empires Online, eh? I'll check it out. I've found that I have very narrow tastes when it comes to strategy/tactics games. I don't like lots of clicking (RTS) or lots of building/micromanaging. Though I did go through a Civ phase. I've spent some time with table top minis, and I love that combat style, so I'm always on the lookout for games that let me square off against someone with an army and we beat on each other until one is dead or an objective is complete. It's sort of like Magic; I enjoy dueling someone but don't get into the deck building.

The battles in Total War were fun. I played Medieval and the demo of the latest one (Napoleon?). But Frozen Synapse and Panzer Corp are keeping me satisfied these days.

I have Minecraft and dabble now and then. I tend to go in spurts and explore new worlds until I get bored. I usually get bored because it is tough in the beginning when you don't have much and need to explore to gather resources, but then once you get a good base and some metal, it gets easier. I liked the old Rogue model of the game getting tougher and tougher and you fight to see how far you can go before you die.
